About Our School

Clyde Erwin Elementary School was dedicated January 11, 1954.  Named for the late State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Clyde A. Erwin, it has always been our challenge to preserve his memory through "providing the type of school program he would have wished."

In keeping with this challenge, on February 12, 2008, the Board of Education voted unanimously to designate us as Onslow County Schools' first elementary magnet to be effective beginning the 2008-2009 school year.  As a magnet school, our instructional focus is global studies and cultural arts.  We utilize the IB-PYP instructional framework to carry out this focus.  In April 2013, we were authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School, boasting the only school with this designation east of I-95.

International studies and cultural arts integrated through the characteristics of the International Baccalaureate Program, allows us to foster the development of the whole child through encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to their academic welfare.  The goal of an IB program of study is to help children embrace that they are citizens of the world; and that as citizens of the world, it is their job to care for the world and it's people.
