Spelling Bee

The district elementary spelling bee competition will take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 5:30 to 6:30PM at the Eastern Regional Skills Center.

Format: A spelling bee is conducted in rounds. Each speller remaining in the spelling bee at the start of a round spells one word. The spelling bee will be conducted orally. Spellers will have a full minute to spell a word. The speller will have 30 seconds from the time the speller pronounces the word to begin spelling. If the speller does not begin spelling at the end of the first 30-second period, judges will give a reminder to begin spelling. The speller will then have 30-seconds from the time of the reminder to complete the spelling. The timekeeper shall keep a record of all students who have reached the 60-second time limit.

Competition List (see below): All words appearing on the competition lists are entries in Merriam-Webster Unabridged available at https://unabridged.merriam-webster.com. Merriam-Webster Unabridged is the final authority and sole source for the spelling of words, the primary source used to craft the pronunciations, definitions, and language origins for the competition lists, and the only authority to be consulted by spelling bee officials.
