PBIS Rewards

Rewards may come in the form of dojo points (where you and your child can see their individual merits on either the Class Dojo app) or also in the form of Eagle Eggs (which shows the merits of your child’s class as a whole) and is displayed on a chart in their homeroom class.

Class Dojo is an app similar to social media for parents and teachers.  It allows you to connect with your child’s teacher, class, and school news and events and also to see your child’s behavior throughout the day. You are alerted when your child earns a dojo point for exhibiting a positive behavior.  Each teacher has different “skills or tasks” they award points for, so be sure to check out how dojo points are awarded and also discuss it with your child.  Although PBIS is primarily focused on positive behaviors, Class Dojo may also alert you to behaviors that “need work.”  In this case, teachers will communicate behaviors that can be discussed at home so that students may strive to improve them in the future.  Keep in mind that each teacher has a different teaching style and classroom management system, so it is important to note that dojo points may look different and be awarded differently from year to year.

How and where are dojo points awarded? Dojo points are awarded to individual students for positive classroom behaviors.

Eagle Eggs are yellow tokens that are awarded by specialists (Encore teachers).  They are rewarded for whole class behavior rather than individual student behavior.  Eagle Eggs are rewarded for behaviors exhibited in the 4 common areas or aspects of class that fuse with the core values of PBIS and/or common areas.

Eagle Eggs are displayed on a chart in your child’s classroom and the class that fills up their class chart first will get to spin a prize wheel to earn a class prize.  Teachers may also make other class incentives for Eagle Eggs at their own discretion.  Eagle Eggs are collected at the end of each month and then collecting them starts all over again.

Typically, about once a month, there is a PBIS celebration which rewards students who have earned enough dojo points to attend a fun event with their peers.  100 dojo points are needed to attend the celebration.

Students cannot have any referrals or think sheets in order to attend the celebration.  Celebrations are great fun and we always take time at the beginning of each celebration to acknowledge the behaviors that enabled students to attend.  We allow them to share out and take pride in their positive behavior so that it is repeated.  If a student does not earn enough dojo points to attend the celebration, we remind them that every cycle allows a new chance to try again for more positive behaviors.

Upcoming PBIS Celebration Dates:

**Please note that it is necessary for classroom teachers to turn in their dojo point tallies a week before the celebration so that the PBIS team can prepare, plan, and order supplies.  Please ask your child’s teacher about the theme or see Class Dojo announcements.

We are all in it together!

PBIS is a school-wide program.  We ask that teachers and staff abide by the same rules, conduct, and behavior as stated in our PBIS motto: Eagles Soar!
